Become foster home

Not ready to adopt, but want to make a huge difference? Fostering might be perfect for you.

Foster homes are the bridge between rescue and forever homes. They give dogs the time, space, and stability they need to heal, learn, and become ready for adoption.

And honestly? I couldn't do this work without foster families.

What Fostering Means

When you foster a dog from aboutashelter, you're giving them something they desperately need: a normal home environment.

Many of our dogs have never been inside a house. They don't know what a couch is, or how to walk on a leash properly, or that humans can be trusted. They need to learn the basics – and they learn best in a calm, patient home environment.

Fostering could mean:

  • Recovery fostering: A dog recovering from surgery or illness who needs quiet, supervised care
  • Training fostering: A dog learning housetraining, basic commands, and how to live in a home
  • Socialization fostering: A nervous or traumatized dog who needs time to build confidence and trust
  • Pre-adoption fostering: Any dog who just needs a temporary home while waiting for their forever family

Who Can Foster?

You don't need to be perfect – but you do need some experience with dogs.

Basic requirements:

  • Experience handling and training dogs
  • Safe, stable living environment
  • Time and patience for a dog who's still learning
  • Ability to follow any medical or behavioral guidelines

Foster homes can be:

  • In Greece (especially Crete)
  • In Germany (Fabian and Julia can help with home checks and support)
  • Anywhere internationally – if you're willing, we'll figure out logistics
